　　Public money and private money 　　

　　Tao Xingzhi founded many private schools in his life, in order to work convenient, he specially sewed a "work clothes" for himself: two pockets were sewn into the coat, one bag for public funds, and one bag for private money。Once he went to collect donations, on the way home to take a ride, because it was too crowded, he suddenly felt a pocket was moved, with a hand touch, not good!The money was stolen。He was sweating, touched the other pocket, he was happy, the public money is still there, but the private money is not a cent。Despite his exhaustion, he insisted on walking back to school from ten miles away。According to ordinary people's thinking, Tao Xingzhi can take out the money collected and use it first, and then make up after returning to the school, no one knows, and no one knows how much money he has raised, but Tao Xingzhi is so clear between public and private。

　　Public and private accounts 　

　　In order to raise funds for running a school, Tao Xingzhi took the lead in fundraising, and announced a discipline: all the money raised belongs to the public, and under no circumstances should anyone misappropriate a penny。

　　On April 24, 1940, Tao Xingzhi said in a letter to Shuai Chang Shu: "The Conservation Society sent a check of 2,176 yuan and 40 jiao, please stamp the school seal and ask Meifeng to collect it.。An independent accountant shall be established for this section and a separate account shall be set aside for expenditure according to the communication and shall not be misappropriated。Once, Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao came to Yucai School, and Tao Xingzhi entertained them for dinner。The next day, he wrote to the treasurer of the school, Ma Xian, saying: "All the expenses of yesterday's dinner, including the food and drinks, the poles and the boat, are on my provisional account, and please settle immediately so that they can be paid.。School funds should not be used。”

　　Tao Xingzhi has an incisable argument about public and private accounts: "A gulf should be drawn between public and private, so that he does not have a single cent of traffic.。Public accounts mixed with private accounts is a jerk。Not only do citizens themselves not be jerks, they also oppose all jerks。Tao Xingzhi is clearly opposed to "stupid people" with such an attitude, and loudly denounced those who embezzled public funds as "stupid things", since it is a thing, it is not a person。

　　Business and private 　

　　Tao Xingzhi said: "To do a public thing, there must be an open budget and final accounts。The budgets and final accounts of village, municipal, county, provincial and state governments should all be made public。In order to prevent the loss of public property, the most important thing is to have a public budget and final accounts。It is an important responsibility of citizens to demand a public budget and final accounts everywhere。”

　　Sunny government affairs, business-like, so that corruption lost the breeding ground。The school founded by Tao Xingzhi himself is a private school, which belongs to private property. The school has a social character, and once it is set up, it must reflect its public welfare。According to Tao Xingzhi, "Once owned by the group, it becomes the common property of all.。So the school's graduation certificate is absolutely not disorderly。

　　Tao Xingzhi strictly taught his son and opposed fraud。In the winter of 1940, his second son Tao Xiaoguang, 22 years old, went to Chengdu to work and study in a radio repair factory with radio expert Ni Shangda。When he just entered the factory, he needed to have a certificate of qualification, but because he had no formal education, Xiaoguang wrote to Ma Fere and asked him for a graduation certificate of Xiaozhuang Normal。Proof sent, did not wait for Xiaoguang to the factory, father's urgent telegram arrived。Tao Xingzhi strictly prevented Xiaoguang from using this certificate in the telegram, and asked him to send it back immediately。Then came another express letter, which said: "We must stick to the idea that 'we would rather be a true Bai Ding than a false scholar'...In case work and study are cancelled, you still come back to Chongqing...In short, 'the pursuit of truth to be a real person', there can be no compromise。If you remember these seven words, it will serve you forever。I hope you must work hard to cultivate in this area, which is true learning。The letter is also attached to a letter that truthfully reflects Xiaoguang's academic qualifications。

　　These seven words, "pursuing truth and being a real person", reflect Tao Xingzhi's spirit of seeking truth all his life, and also become Xiaoguang's motto。

　　Public and private morality 　

　　Tao Xingzhi pointed out in the article "Four Questions a Day" : "The foundation of building the Great Wall of personality is morality。Morality is divided into "public morality" and "private morality"。Those who hinder public morality will resolve not to do what they have not done, and those who have begun to do it will immediately stop doing it。If it is conducive to public morality, we will do our best to help him succeed。Moreover, "private morality", people who do not pay attention to private morality, often become people who harm public morality, so a person's private morality is more important, private morality is the foundation of public morality, the most important private morality is "integrity".。All bad intentions and bad behavior start from incorruptibility。How to be honest and clean？The key is to strengthen personal moral cultivation, improve the quality of the whole Chinese nation, and finally make our Great Wall of personality impenetrable。
